Die Cutting Operator Apprentice

Our client is seeking a qualified Die Cutting Operator Apprentice to join their team in Fitchburg, MA

Schedule: 1st shift 6:50am-3:00pm

Starting Rate: $16.00/Hr

REQUIREMENTS:

*Candidate must have mechanical aptitude and previous manufacturing experience. *

• Ability to read and write English
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations, (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division),
• Basic computer skills
• Three months experience in a graphics arts or paper/paperboard converting process preferred.
• Without previous experience, as stated above, previous experience in the adjustment and operation of machinery in a manufacturing environment is desirable.
• Must be capable of working independently after initial training period.
• Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and re-formulation of plans.
• Ability to vary work pace, including work rapidly, display initiative, perform detailed examinations and remain attentive to details.
• Heavy lifting of 45 pounds and over
• Heaviest object to be lifted is a fully loaded die chase, or stripping unit which may weigh in excess of 200 pounds. This would be lifted in tandem with another employee and may occur several times per day.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Production of die cut product in a manner that provides consistent and accurate die positioning to graphics, proper and thorough cutting, precise and accurate creasing/folding properties, precise and proper cut-score depth and orderly product delivery.
• The release of die cut product to the Finishing processes.
• Reviews job specifications including job order directions, department supplemental instructions, die vinyl/diagrams, samples and proofs.
• Installs tooling into die cutting machinery, (cutting, creasing, waste removal and blank separation tooling).
• Creates spot-up sheets behind the die and applies spot-up tape as necessary to achieve optimum cutting pressure.
• Adjusts multiple-sheet detection devices
• Adjusts side-guide, head-stop and gripper devices to accurately align streams of sheets into position with the die stationary die tooling.
• Removes die tooling from machinery and returns tooling to set-up personnel.
• Documents production quantities, production time periods and quality problems.
• Obtains die impressions, carbon paper outlines on crease plate material, and spot-up packing paper using die cutting machinery.
• Jogs pallets of paperboard and turns the pallets of paperboard over, using aerator/skid turning machinery.
• Manually jogs and stacks paperboard.
• Delivers pallets of die cut product to the next process.
• Moves waste product to recycling centers.
• Delivers pallets of die cut product to the next process.
• Performs scheduled maintenance and minor repairs on die cutting machinery.
• Performs housekeeping tasks around the assigned machinery and in the department.
• All other task as assigned.
